Jabal Arkanu, Libya

The mountainous outcrops of Jabal Arkanu, which are remnants of an ancient granitic dome, rise about 500 m above the surrounding Gilf Kebir plateau in the Libyan Desert. Rivers of sand meander around them, swept across the desert pavement by northeasterly winds.
The landforms of this region of Africa are the best terrestrial analogies for some of the landforms seen on the surface of Mars.
